Recycling is so last season darling! It is all about Upcycling now!
But what is upcycling? The definition I found, from the chalice of all knowledge, Wikipedia was Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality. And what better example of Upcycling, than Virgin Trains’ new decorations, in one of their First Class lounges? Not long ago the train timetables were useless, out of date and good for nothing! But thanks to Manchester artist, Adnan Bayyat, they have been given a new lease of life. Adnan has transformed them into a wonderful piece of art, a flower arrangement which will not expire or go out of date, but will instead live in Virgin Train’s First Class Lounge at Manchester Piccadilly station.
Adnan Bayyat didn’t stop there. He has also taken a couple of old and worn-out Virgin Trains uniforms and turned them into a wedding dress.
The artwork and dress are part of a joint initiative between Virgin Trains and Adnan to encourage the sustainable use of waste materials in a creative way and ties in with the artist’s 'The Solution to Pollution’ project.
