Learn something new for the new year

New Year is traditionally the time of year when people decide to give up the guilty pleasures they have overindulged in over Christmas. But why not resolve to do more fun stuff in 2012 and learn something new!

Stanford University is offering a range of free online classes, including one about “Making Green Buildings”. The class starts in January and is open to anyone who is passionate about improving the sustainability of the built environment. The class will be led by Martin Fischer and will be taught through a number of short videos each week.

If you are keen on learning something new but green buildings don’t float your boat, then check out the wide variety of short lectures, on the TED talks website. Alternatively, for some crafty challenges, take a look at the Instructables website with loads of step by step instructions for creating a whole plethora of weird and wonderful things, including loads of upcycling ideas too!

For a more hands on, outdoor learning experience, don’t forget Virgin Experience Days have just added a range of farming experiences at Jimmy’s Farm. Made famous by the BBC TV programme, Jimmy Doherty is a proud and keen farmer and has developed a range of Masterclasses to help newcomers to farm life get the best from their land.
