Elders plea to stop the Serengeti sell-off

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has agreed to support the Avaaz petition to try and prevent a major land purchase affecting the Maasai people.

Encouraging The Elders to sign too, Tutu has reached out to others to sign the petition that will prevent the sell-off that would force up to 48,000 members of Africa’s famous Maasai tribe from their land.

The petition calls on Tanzanian President Jakaye Kikwete to: “…oppose any attempt to evict Maasai from their traditional land or require them to relocate to make way for foreign hunters.”

Tutu is asking the petition link to be sent to friends, family and posted on Facebook walls so that the voices of the world are heard on behalf of the Maasai people.
