Having secured a place as the support on Westlife’s mammoth arena tour Vanquish could be about to hit the big time as the UK's hottest new girl group. Virgin Red Room speaks to Holly about the girl's first times, including an on-stage wardrobe malfunction…
The first Vanquish gig was on a schools tour, it was a secondary school up in Scotland. I remember we were all so nervous, our knees were shaking behind the curtain before we went on and we forgot all our words. It wasn’t a great success but we’ve got a lot better since then.
The first job I had was working as a waitress at about the age of 15, it wasn’t bad. I also worked as a cold caller which wasn’t so fun. People would either hang up on me or I’d just get in long conversations with lonely old men – I never sold anything.
My first film I saw at the cinema was Beauty and the Beast with my mum, it’s my favourite Disney film of all time.
The first time I got drunk is something I remember really well. It was at a friend’s house party, I drunk far too many Orange Reefs and the room felt like it was spinning and I was sick. It was still good fun though.
Our first mishap on stage was when we were supporting Erasure in Blackpool recently. We had these skirts on that had been specially made for us, they came undone and we were pretty much half naked on stage! Then one of the girls tripped over her heels, bit of a disaster.
The first album I bought was by The Spice Girls, I was completely obsessed with them.
The first Vanquish reviews have been comparing us to Girls Aloud and The Spice Girls which is fantastic to read, we really admire those groups and it’s good to hear other people think highly of us.
My first date was six months ago, it sounds odd but I’ve never had any dates before that. This guy took me to a comedy club and the Häagen-Dazs restaurant, so he definitely got a ten out of ten.
Our first album is coming along really well. We’ve got some amazing song writers working with us, they’ve written hits for the likes of Britney, James Morrison and Kylie Minogue. We’ve got a big catalogue of songs to choose from.
It’s quite hard to juggle everything as there’s so much going on, we’ve got to prepare for the Westlife tour, do lots of rehearsals and work our part time jobs as well. There’s definitely more upsides than down though.
We’re all really nervous about the tour, it’s a massive opportunity to play in front of hundreds of thousands of people up and down the country. It’s something we’ve only ever dreamed of, it’s the most amazing thing that’s happened to any of us.
Vanquish will be playing across Britain with Westlife in May.
Did you enjoy those first times? How about some more from; The Ting Tings, We Are Augustines, Katie Melua, The Jezabels, Sleigh Bells, Kyla La Grange, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Blood Red Shoes or Charlie Simpson or The Futureheads?
