Sarah's Musical Kitchen: The Theatrics of Pop Music

Sarah's Musical Kitchen explains why Lady Gaga is leading the pop world for Virgin Top Music Blogs.
From Lady Gaga and her wicked scorched piano, to Pink and her flying trapeze in the sky, pop music is pushing the limits beyond racy midriffs and girl on girl pecks (channel Madonna, Britney, & Christina). A 16 year old Britney Spears in today’s industry wouldn’t even make your grandmother blush.
Every generation defines their own pop music. The world of millennial pop, once filled with fresh faced tartlets ready to take on the world, has been replaced with Billy Idol’s long lost children and Cher’s pant less protégés. Shocking, maybe not, but watching today’s popular music feels like watching a musical theater production on copious amounts of Rock Star and crack.
In my pop world there’s only one woman right now that can bring all the theatrics and pant less wonder to one stage, Lady Gaga. When I heard Just Dance for the first time it was an instant pop connection. The Fame, from start to finish, is everything a pop album should be, catchy, electric, and simply put…fun.
Gaga’s charm rests solely in her desire to be everything she’s not suppose to be, herself. My high school years weren’t filled with inspiration and innovation from pop music. They were filled with a multitude of blond beauties out dancing each other in their best belly baring uniforms. Now, I will not deny my love for the likes of Britney Spears and the rest of the mousekeeter clan, but growing up in the generation of over produced, manufactured starlets makes me jump for joy for artists like Lady Gaga. She is a true visionary and every delusional dance move and eye popping outfit leaves me wanting more every time.
The Fame Monster would have been more satisfying if it was actually a full length album, but every song delivered to the end. The differences between songs like Bad Romance and Speechless somehow molded themselves together to form another fantastic piece of work. When all the theatrics are put to the side the biggest attraction for me is that the girl can actually sing and play. Like her or not she is legit, and her music, performances, and videos deliver. Thank you Gaga for putting the love of pop back into my headphones!
