Sarah's Musical Kitchen: My Dream Festival Line-Up

My Dream Lineup
In the spirit of festival season quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to come up with my dream “mini” festival lineup. Since it would be an incredibly long post to list enough bands for an actual festival, I thought I would narrow it down to my top 5 picks.
Lady Gaga
If you read my first post, The Theatrics of Pop Music, then you understand my love for the new Queen of Pop, Lady Gaga. It comes as no surprise that it felt like Christmas morning when the second leg of her Monster Ball Tour was announced in the States. So, until I can see Gaga in all her glory this summer, I will have to resort to YouTube performances and my imagination of seeing her perform at my very own festival. Her bigger than life persona and crazy live feats would be amazing to see live, outdoors, with thousands of my closest friends. She would most definitely open the festival to get the crowd dancing and in the mood for an amazing night of music.
Erykah Badu
Ms. Badu is one of my favorite all time singers. Ever since the first time I saw the video for “On and On” I was completely hooked. I had the pleasure of finally seeing her live a few years back at the House of Blues. She connects with the audience so well while bringing such a flavor to all of her music, and not to mention that her voice is AMAZING. Her style of R&B/Hip-Hop is so unique and fresh, and you can feel her growing as an artist with each album. I would have to hear at least one song from each album, along with the new single off of her upcoming release (Lil Wayne appearance anyone?!?). I have a method to my madness by combining The Roots and Erykah Badu on the same bill…but you’ll have to wait until the next act.
The Roots
The Roots is up there with the most shows I’ve seen by a single act, and I never get tired of seeing them live. Their band and overall performance is so amazing that it sends such a positive energy throughout the entire crowd. They are pure fun and I would love to see them pump up the crowd at the festival. You can’t see The Roots and not have them play “You Got Me”, and definitely not without a little help from Ms. Badu. She showed up at one of the first Roots’ shows I saw and performed it live...it was pretty incredible.
Animal Collective
As the night progresses and we get closer to the premium act it only makes sense to bring out the eclectic group, Animal Collective. I saw them for the first time at the House of Blues last summer and was blown away. I wasn’t very familiar with them at the time but definitely left a fan. It’s impossible to not get up on your feet when you hear the intro to “My Girls”! Their stage setup was incredibly visual and would be pretty amazing projected out onto a field of people. Call me crazy, but can you imagine Thom Yorke coming out and doing a crazy collaboration near the end of their set?? I’m just saying…
Radiohead
I can’t have a dream lineup and not include my favorite band of all time. Radiohead has been playing on my stereo since I first won their debut “disc”, Pablo Honey, back in 1993, until I downloaded their latest album, In Rainbows off of their website in late 2007. No other band’s music speaks to me like Radiohead’s music. They are the only band that, in my opinion, has musically evolved 100 percent the right way. They have created music that is true to who they are as artists, and not only did it work, but it inspired. Every time I’ve seen them live it takes me to another dimension…and in my dream festival lineup, there’s only one band good enough to headline, Radiohead!
What would be your dream lineup?
