Sarah's Musical Kitchen: A Few Brits the US Needs NOW!

I love to peruse different country sites on iTunes to see who’s making their mark on top of the charts. Unfortunately, us here in the States are late to hear some of the best, up and coming artists in other parts of the world. Here are two lovely ladies that I’ve stumbled upon in my quest for new music!

I heard Paloma Faith for the first time a few months ago. I was speaking with my mother about what tunes she’s currently jamming to and Ms. Faith was on the top of her list. She found out about her while watching an episode of Jools Holland and was immediately taken by the eccentric young star. Although, 'Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful' is not available in the US, our wonderful world of technology has allowed us to buy her album through various different outlets online.

While experiencing minor Amy Winehouse flashbacks with a first listen to Paloma Faith's new album, it becomes quite apparent that the two are completely different musical entities. Both artist are a bit of a 1950s throwback with similar vocal stylings, but Ms. Faith brings a fresh blend of passionate soul and pop that sets her apart from the multitude of Amy Winehouse comparisons.

'Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful' is a majestic blend of old world, French pop, electro heaven. 'Upside Down' transports me to Paris; eating a crisp biscotti while sipping on a cappuccino...oh and dancing in the streets with a big hat and bright red lipstick! From start to finish Paloma reals me in with every emotion; from heartfelt tunes like 'Broken Doll' to the in your face tune, 'Stone Cold Sober'. Ms. Faith is intriguing in every form and America needs her!!

Taking quite a turn in styles is the young, fresh faced singer Ellie Goulding. I found Ellie through my daily iTunes explorations and was quite impressed by her subliminal vocal stylings. 'Starry Eyed' is a perfect pop song with elements of indie dance, bleeding through every lyric of the song. My favorite song that I’ve had the pleasure of listening to is 'Wish I Stayed'. Her vocals are so crisp and pure, molding perfectly with the electronic, almost otherworldly melodies that the music takes you to. She molds so perfectly into her music that it envelopes the listener in every way.

With minor glimmers of Bjork, Ellie Goulding sings beyond her years with perfect conviction. She pushes herself beyond the typical blonde hair, blue eyed pop stars with a truth that resonates through every lyric of her songs. I can’t wait to see her success extend to my side of the pond and maybe one day be able to experience her angelic voice in a live setting.

Favorite Ellie Goulding tune: Starry Eyed, Wish I Stayed, Under the Sheets, and Guns and Horses.

Dear Epic and Polydor Records, send these young ladies to the US!!!! They will not be met with disappointment.
