Tom Odell seems to be a name on everyone’s lips in the music press this month, with the Chichester born singer-songwriter seemingly destined for big things this year. Winning this year’s Critics Choice award at the Brit Awards looks set to be a springboard for Odell to achieve both critical and mainstream success in 2013.
Odell’s music career started from a young age, where he wrote charming lyrics accompanied by piano. He started on the music seen in Brighton and has now completed a great many shows across the country, most notably when recently supporting Jake Bugg on his nationwide tour.
‘Another Love’ is Odell’s debut single, a stunning piece of work. The track tells a love story, with powerful meanings and beautiful music. Odell has a very distinguishing voice which makes the lyrics ring true and captures the listener. His enchanting vocals work perfectly with the piano, creating song with a strong narrative and an even stronger beat.
What I like about Odell is how different and independent he is with his music. While a lot of singer-songwriters are ‘one-man guitarists’, his style offers a new angle and shows how he has been inspired by his many influences in music while growing up.
His debut album is set to be released in June of this year, a record which I fully expect to be one of 2013’s great albums. For those who have not done so, I highly recommend you give ‘Another Love’ a listen, as well as a couple of his other tracks ‘Can’t Pretend’ and ‘Sense’. His songs are both poetically written and beautifully performed.
I am very positive that Tom Odell will have a great, I just hope everyone gets the chance to witness his unique and captivating style.
