Iggy Pop & Best Coast - coolest combo in rock?

Iggy Pop and Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino have teamed up for a genuinely exciting rock collaboration - who can remember the last one of those?

The R&B end of the charts - mainly Rihanna - has had the tag-team singles market sown up for years now, from god-awful David Guetta nonsense to pitch-perfect pop with Drake and Calvin Harris. But rock? The best there has been of late was Metallica and Lou Reed teaming up - and that was terrible.

So thank the vamps at True Blood for bringing together everyone's favourite iconic, laconic punkster Iggy with dreamy indie darling Beth. Their song, 'Let's Boot and Rally' isn't reinventing the wheel, but it's a seedy cut of good old fashioned rock 'n' roll.

I haven't seen the softest-of-soft-porn sub-Twilight hysterics of True Blood for quite a few series, but this fits right on theme. Apparently Iggy is a big fan of the show, which at least sheds some light on what he is spending all that insurance ad money on: HBO boxsets.

Iggy said: ""I've always liked to bite. I guess this makes me a singing vampire, does this mean I have a licence to suck? Hi Bethany..." As for Best Coast's leader? She's in direct form, lending Pop some punch to match his drawl.

We had Bethany in the Red Room for an interview recently - see how that went down above.

'Let's Boot and Rally' airs in this week's True Blood episode, but you can hear it now at KCRW. Fangs a lot guys.
