Pictures: The Virgin Money Cyclone

It was a busy weekend for Virgin Money, as the UK’s biggest cycling festival – The Virgin Money Cyclone – took place in Newcastle. Despite some appalling weather doing its best to disrupt proceedings early on, the riders and the gods rallied to see a fantastic weekend of cycling take place.

Check out these first photos to come out of the weekend, featuring the Leazes Park Criteriums, Cyclone Challenge rides, the Beaumont Trophy and Curlew Cup. The latter of which was won by Sarah Storey, who will be representing Great Britain at London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The riders received a police escort as they made their way through the countryside…

...despite the wet and windy conditions it was important to keep hydrated...

...riders of all ages and ability took to the road, with a range of different class events...

...with some being more competitive than others, making for a wonderfully diverse weekend of cycling.
