Virgin Mobile Latin America to begin operations in Colombia in 2012

Virgin Mobile Latin America (VMLA) confirmed today it would launch operations in Colombia in 2012. The company has received all regulatory approvals necessary to begin its business from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, and recently signed an agreement with Movistar, one of the country’s leading mobile network operators.
VMLA announced in June 2011 its plan to become Latin America’s leading mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). Since then, the company has made significant progress towards its goal of beginning commercial operations in many countries.
VMLA is slated to launch its first operation in Chile before the end of March and will continue to expand its operations throughout the region. Colombia will now follow in the 2nd half of 2012. VMLA has also received regulatory approvals from the regulatory authorities in Mexico and Peru, and continues to make progress on its expansion throughout Latin America.
