Virgin Media winning broadband 'pace race'

An Ofcom report into residential broadband speeds has shown that Virgin Media are winning the ‘pace race’, with speeds quicker than that of BT and other UK providers.
Of the 13 internet service providers reviewed, the highest average download speed was Virgin Media’s ‘up to 50Mbps’ with 49Mbps. Meanwhile, BT’s ‘Infinity’ could only manage an average speed of 36Mbps.
The news comes in the wake of an announcement of a new set of rules regarding the advertisement of broadband speeds, with speed claims of internet service providers now needing to be achieved by at least 10 per cent of their customer base.
"It's good to see Britain’s broadband speeds moving in the right direction and the new advertising rules will, for the first time, force our competitors to be more honest about their 'up to 24Mb' claims. We hope they’ll try to keep up," said Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media.
