Virgin Media Shorts: the judges

As we last week reported, the 13 films to make the final cut for the annual Virgin Media Shorts award have been revealed. The judging panel are currently hard at work, deliberating over which picture should walk away with the top prize, but who is the judging panel comprised of?
Julie Walters
The legendary British actress and comedian has been appearing on stage, screen and television for almost four decades. Back in the ‘80s, her TV performances alongside Victoria Wood had the nation in stitches, and the pair teamed up again in BAFTA nominated sitcom 'Dinnerladies'.
Phyllida Lloyd
British film maker and theatre director Lloyd most recently directed critically acclaimed Margaret Thatcher biopic 'The Iron Lady', starring Meryl Streep, and previously directed the smash hit musical 'Mamma Mia', both on stage and on screen.
Luke Snellin
After winning Virgin Media Shorts in 2009, Snellin's short film 'Mixtapestarring Bill Milner' ('Son of Rambow') was nominated for a BAFTA. Disco, the follow up to Mixtape, was selected at Oscar Qualifying film festivals in the US and long listed for a BAFTA in 2012.
Mat Whitecross
Young British film maker Whitecross started out making movies in his bedroom at 13. By the time he reached university to study English, he was directing Coldplay’s first music video, 'Bigger Stronger'. In 2010 he had made his feature film debut with Ian Dury biopic 'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll', starring Andy Serkis, which was nominated for two BAFTAs and a BIFA.
Sam Branson
Branson, son of Richard, is founder and chairman of production company Sundog Pictures. Sam is passionate about using documentary to educate and inspire people to engage more in the world that they live in.
James King
Film critic and presenter of The Movie Show on ITV2, the weekly programme reviewing the latest cinema and DVD releases alongside news and interviews. Until recently, James was the voice of film on Radio 1, reviewing the latest movies.
Ben Roberts
the Director of the BFI Film Fund. Ben was CEO of Protagonist Pictures which represents many British films in the international market place. Since 2007 he has overseen a range of releases including 'Submarine', 'Kill List', 'Nativity', 'Deep Blue Sea', 'Tyrannosaur', 'Streetdance 3D' and 'In The Loop'.
Cindy Rose
Cindy Rose is Executive Director of Digital Entertainment at Virgin Media. She leads Virgin Media's strategy for bringing the very best entertainment to consumers across multiple platforms including development of Virgin Media's award-winning digital platform and market-leading TV on demand service.
