The Virgin Media ‘Our Digital Future’ campaign launched by Richard Branson has today been joined by UK Digital Champion and Chairwoman of Go On UK, Martha Lane Fox.
As well as chairing the Government Digital Service Advisory Board, she also heads up Go On UK - a coalition that is helping more people to get online in the UK.
Lane Fox has spoken of the future of robotic technology and the importance of parents and schools educating online safety:
“I think the responsibility for educating children (about online safety) is the same as it is outside the internet world which is with parents, schools and anybody else who has authority over children.
“It’s all of our responsibilities to make sure that children are educated in an effective way that takes into mind the fact that technology is changing all the time and their world will be very different from the one we inhabit now.”
Virgin Media will use the findings of 'Our Digital Future' to help shape internet services of the future and inform how Media represents its customers’ and the general public’s views to the UK Government.
“I think it is fantastic to get the country talking about the important issues around digitisation. For me the biggest result out of it would be if we manage to inspire and connect more people.
"There are still seven million people who have never used the internet: they tend to be lower income households and older people where I would argue there is a disproportionate benefit to using technology.”
