Virgin Media Shorts have announced that for the first time they will be opening up their final shortlist of films to a 13th spot, giving one more budding film maker the chance to make a breakthrough.
Back for its fifth year of supporting undiscovered talent, the competition will see a Grand Prize Winner walk away with funding to the tune of £30,000 for their next film project with BFI, a People’s Choice Award winner who will get £5,000 of film funding and BFI mentoring and one winner of the TiVo Award – as voted for through Virgin Media customers’ TiVo boxes.
Traditionally the judging panel of BFI creators have selected the entire list, however this year the entry which is shared most online will take the Lucky 13th Spot. Every time the ‘tweet’, ‘like’ or ‘share on Facebook’ buttons under the films are hit on the Shorts website between July 12th and 19th the selected film will get an extra nudge – so if you know someone you want to support, start spreading the word!
If the most shared film has already been chosen by the BFI as one of their final 12, then the next most shared entry will be selected – providing it meets the Virgin Media Shorts criteria.
