What songs get you going in the gym?

Exercise can be a lonely and gruelling pursuit at times, which is why the iPod has become one of the most essential items of gym equipment.

Song choice is everything though, there’s no time for ballads or slow numbers when there’s miles to be done on the treadmill.

So what music do you find gets you focused for a good work out? With this question in mind Virgin Active asked their Twitter followers to suggest the tracks that they listen to when feeling the burn.

Perhaps surprisingly it was pop that came out on top with 28% of the vote, closely followed by dance and hip-hop.

The top 10 artists were: David Guetta, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Prodigy, Rhianna, Nicki Minaj, Jessie J, Kelly Clarkson, Michael Jackson and Nero.

So what's your personal pick? Join in the debate on the Virgin Active Facebook page and on Twitter via #imworkingoutwith
