Virgin Holidays is proud to be supporting Matthew Loddy in his epic challenge of running 100 marathons in 100 days for his charity, the Framework Foundation and Teenage Cancer Trust.
The inspiration for this incredible undertaking was the loss of Matthew’s friend Phil Latham to a rare stomach cancer in 2010, and a commitment Matthew made to give something back to those who supported Phil and his family during the difficult final months. Matthew hopes to have raised over £100,000 when he completes his epic journey.
The challenge began on 14th January, when Matthew left the Algarve – having never run a full marathon before – to start on the 2,600 mile journey home. Running with just his father in support and staying in campsites as they have travelled through the continent, Matthew has now completed an astonishing 89 marathons and will arrive back in the UK on the 12 April for the final leg of the journey – completing 10 marathons in 10 days. His 100th 26.2 miles will be on 22 April, when he will join the Virgin London Marathon.
As well as making a cash donation to the Framework Foundation, the team at Virgin Holidays has galvanized its 20,000-strong community of Facebook followers to provide additional support to Matthew, posting regular updates to its followers to help raise awareness of the undertaking. Virgin Holidays retail staff will also be showering their renowned ‘Rockstar Service’ on Matthew and welcoming him as he enters the final stages of his mission in Brighton, Bognor Regis, Portsmouth, Southampton and Leatherhead.
