Virgin Active's naked truth

Virgin Active have launched the UK’s first entirely naked workout session, following extensive scientific research into aerodynamics.

The unprecedented exercise regime, ‘Bare and Burn’, develops the idea adopted by cyclists who shave their body hair to increase speed. With sport scientist Dr Kae Joist concluding that shedding clothes allows exercisers to move more freely and maximise the benefits of a workout.

“Whilst us Brits are frequently labelled as prudish, this new trend in exercise tells a different story. ‘Bare and Burn’ classes have been growing in popularity in the USA after launching last year, but I am happy to say that we are leading the trend on British soil,” explained Richard Branson.

“The benefits are endless; exercising in the nude not only burns more calories, it is also kind to the environment as there is no sweaty kit to wash afterwards.”

Following the success of trial sessions held in selective Virgin Active health clubs, the programme will be rolled out across all 122 UK clubs. To avoid embarrassment amongst clothed members, attendees will be asked to wear a robe to and from the workout in specially designed ‘nude studios’.
