With the arrival of today’s scorching heatwave it feels as though summer is well and truly upon us, so it’s time to get up off the sofa and spend as much time as humanly possible in the great outdoors.
Jogging, gardening, cycling, shed building - al fresco pursuits are fantastic fun and with Virgin Active’s easy to follow guide to getting in shape they’ll be made all the enjoyable.
Firstly, avoid falling behind in bike rides with some preparation in the gym. Resistance training will build up the strength in your legs a treat, meaning that when you do go for a jaunt, the only burning you’ll have to worry about will be the type that’s turning your face purple.
Secondly, give your core a blast through classes like Pilates and Yoga to improve your overall strength, posture and balance. This will help with a range of sunny day activities, from washing the car to digging in the garden.
Finally, get ready for irregular movements by getting to grips with kit like Kettlebells and ViPR®. This second one in particular is genius, as the exercises you use it for all mimic the movements of your everyday life. A few sessions and you should be ready to chase that frisbee and set up the BBQ in no time.
