'Minute of mayhem' for Malcolm McLaren
- Apr 22, 2010
In honour of the late Malcolm McLaren, people are being asked to observe a 'minute of mayhem' today.
The Sex Pistols manager's funeral will be held in London this afternoon (April 22nd) and his son Joseph Corré, has urged people to play loud music at midday as a celebration of the punk pioneer's life.
The funeral cortege will travel through Camden High Street to Kentish Town Road for members of the public to pay their last respects, before a private ceremony at Highgate Cemetary.
Mr Corré has called for people to send donations to human rights charity Humanade rather than lay flowers.
He said on the charity's website: "In celebration of Malcolm’s life we are asking people to observe a MINUTE OF MAYHEM at midday on 22nd April. Put on your favourite records and let it RIP!
"The family hopes that their privacy will be respected in and around the cemetery on the day of this funeral."
Special commemorative T-shirts are onsale with McLaren's famous 'CASH FROM CHAOS' slogan – all proceeds will be donated to Humanade.
Malcolm McLaren signed The Sex Pistols to Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Records label in 1977 and went on to establish himself as one of music's most influential characters.
He died in Switzerland on April 8th aged 64, following a battle with cancer.
