Your dream career? Don't live to regret it

Today's guest blog looks at why we shouldn't be afraid to go for the job of our dreams...

I was asked in a recent interview, “If you weren’t running your own business, what job do you think you would do?” I honestly couldn’t answer the question.

I thought about it a lot over the next couple of days and still struggled, eventually deciding that I would only be happy in another job if I were a James Bond style secret agent. Serving Queen and country, the excitement, the cool gadgets and the lifestyle that no 9 to 5 could ever give me.

It made me seriously think about what I am currently doing now with my life and if it was truly fulfilling. After being asked this, I decided to ask a number of other people the same question and 90% of the time the answer was that they’d prefer to be in a different job. I found this really scary, but also quite enlightening for a variety of reasons.

Life really is too short to not be striving to reach your full potential and full happiness, whether that is career related or not. We spend most of our lives working (whether we like it or not) so quite simply, we must strive to work in something that we enjoy and fulfills us.

I’ve put in an application to MI7 to satisfy my inquisitive side and see if I could get in, just because I wouldn’t want to live with the regret of not knowing what might have been.

What might have been for you, could still be, if you are prepared to take the chance…
